Peter Saville
Peter was an English art director and graphic
designer born in Manchester 9th October 1955 he has designed many
record sleeves for Factory Records. Peter studied graphic design at Manchester
Polytechnic and then went to Manchester Metropolitan. He then got into the
music scene after he met with Tony Wilson. Tony was a journalist and television
presenter who appeared at Patti Smiths show in 1978 the meeting resulted in
Wilson commissioning the first Factory Records poster this resulted with Peter
becoming partners in Factory Records where he designed many record sleeves for
artists through the company for Joy Division and New Order. By joining Factory
Records he worked with Wilson, Martin Hannett, Rob Gretton and Alan Erasmus.
